This is a tough one to answer – the local Meineke in my area does the least expensive exhaust repairs that I’ve found, but they don’t do engine work. I would assume that if they did, it would also be competitive.
One important note I might add – price is definitely not the most important factor in getting work done on your vehicle.
Here’s where things get sticky. First of all muffler shops don’t employ ASE certified mechanics. If the job is straightforward and easy I’ll call around to as many shops as possible. Private mechanics are your best bet.
It always depends on what you need done, but generally, Meineke is average priced for a chain type store. If money is your motivation, then buy a Haynes or Chilton’s manual for your vehicle and do it yourself. You will enjoy it and get a feeling of accomplishment and self satisfaction. Even if I have to buy new tools for a specific job, I almost always save money by doing it myself. If time is your problem, then you should probably shop around for hourly rates and see if you can get some reviews on service before selecting a service shop. Have fun and good luck!
Meineke is a franchisee. You will get both good and bad locations depending on where you go. Call the Better Business Bureau if it is a problem shop they will be able to tell you.
As far as price they will be cheaper than the dealership and may be slightly higher than the local neighbor mechanic.
