You can get a painted OEM spoiler on ebay for around $300. A body shop shouldn’t charge over $100 to put it on for you.. or you can do it yourself.
Dont go with the tacky body kits or huge stupid spoilers. They ruin the drag coefficient of your car and can make it handle like a wet rag.. the OEM spoiler is designed in a wind tunnel.. the ricer body kits are not.
Here a few things to ponder upon:
It sounds like you want to rice it up. Best advice – don’t do it because not only it will look silly and people will be laughing at you, it will also be counterproductive and will make the car slower and this is why:
Let’s assume that you will find somebody who will machine the spoiler correctly to achieve certain downforce figures at appropriate speeds (which is unlikely to begin with). Maxima is a front wheel drive car and the spoiler’s partial duty is to apply weight on the driving wheels for added traction – in your case you will be applying traction to the wrong wheels.
Next thing is stability. When a spoiler is doing it’s job, it applies hundreds of pounds of extra downforce to increase stability at high speeds. Maxima’s top speed is about 120 so if the spoiler is properly setup on your car, it should be effective between 65 and 100 MPH.
This can be done, but it will generate about 400+ pounds of downforce on your car which will make it considerably slower since you do not really need downforce at these speeds in a front wheel drive. A front wheel drive needs a front spoiler incorporated into the bumper which will also slow your car down with the power that you have.
So the verdict – it needs a spoiler less than it would need a fifth wheel.
Not only will it look like a clown mobile – it will actually be slower than a stock car.
I used to own 1995 max with the factory spoiler. It looks great with the factory spoiler. So as long you put the factory style spoiler, you be okay. Go to burtmanindustries.com and order one.
If adding a spoiler to a fwd car makes it rice then i had best tell at least 40 of the fwd car owners on my street that there cars are rice and most people on my street are above 70 years old.
I had a spoiler fitted to my 96 maxima for about in dollars $50 as a rough conversion but seeing how easy it was i will do a spoiler next time myself.
My Fav Maxima.
